Jannik Sinner survived a stern test in his third-round clash against Denis Shapovalov at the US Open. On Saturday, August 30, the Italian needed three hours and 12 minutes to register a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Sinner was far from his fluent best, dropping serve three times, but compensated by breaking Shapovalov on six occasions. After conceding the opening set, the World No. 1 responded strongly in the second. The third set saw him trail 0-3 before mounting a spirited fightback with a double break, turning the deficit into a 4-3 lead and eventually sealing the set.

From that point, Sinner was in complete control, wrapping up the contest with clinical precision. The win not only secured his place in the fourth round but also extended his unbeaten streak in Grand Slam matches on hard courts to 24.
Sinner will next be up against the winner of the other third-round clash between Alexander Bublik and Tommy Paul.
Naomi Osaka, seeded No. 23, powered through to the U.S. Open 2025 fourth round with a hard-earned 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 victory over No. 15 seed Daria Kasatkina at Louis Armstrong Stadium on August 30. The emphatic first set saw Osaka drop just eight points, delivering a dominant performance with minimal unforced errors.
Kasatkina responded strongly in the second set, breaking Osaka’s serve four times to claim it 6-4. In the decider, Osaka regained her composure, closing out the match 6-3 to reach the Round of 16—a feat she hasn't achieved at a major since winning the Australian Open in 2021. Her next opponent: third seed and defending champion Coco Gauff, setting up one of the most anticipated women’s clashes of the tournament.
On her upcoming match against Gauff, Osaka said, “Can somebody come to the match and cheer for me because it’s tough playing an American here. I hope you guys adopted me as well. I see her as a little sister.”
Gauff holds a 3-2 edge in their head-to-head, though Osaka won their only US Open meeting back in 2019.
