Shimron Hetmyer delivered a stunning performance, smashing a last-ball six to secure a thrilling three-wicket victory for the Seattle Orcas against MI New York in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. The Orcas successfully chased down a formidable target of 238, marking the highest successful run chase in MLC history.
MI New York had earlier set a daunting target, posting 237/4, thanks to a blistering, unbeaten century from their captain, Nicholas Pooran (108 off 60 balls), supported by Tajinder Dhillon's explosive 95 off just 35 deliveries.
Despite the onslaught, the Seattle Orcas bowlers, Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers, managed to grab two wickets each.
Seattle's chase began poorly, losing both Josh Brown and Shayan Jahangir early in the powerplay.
Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and captain Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) then launched a counter-attack, injecting momentum into the chase. Heinrich Klaasen contributed a quickfire 26 off 13 before falling to Rushil Ugarkar.
This set the scene for Hetmyer's remarkable innings.
As the required run rate escalated, Hetmyer shifted gears, unleashing an unbeaten 97 off a mere 40 balls, comprising 5 fours and 9 sixes. His extraordinary strike rate of 242.50 kept the Orcas in contention.
With five runs needed off the final ball, Hetmyer faced Kieron Pollard. He expertly flicked the ball over fine leg for a six, sealing a memorable victory for the Seattle Orcas.
"This one is one of the best, because our backs were against the wall and I'm still grimacing over the last game where we couldn't cross the line," said Hetmyer, the Player of the Match, after his incredible performance.
