Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone as he approaches 2,000 Test runs. He needs just 97 more runs to become the quickest Indian to reach this landmark, potentially eclipsing a 49-year-old record held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. India will face England in the second Test at Edgbaston starting on July 2nd.

Jaiswal's consistency has been a major positive for India, especially during this period of transition. He recently demonstrated his talent with a superb century in the first Test at Headingley. Unfortunately, his stellar performance wasn't enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting a challenging target of 371 runs, England, led by impressive performances from Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, secured a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Jaiswal's individual form provides a beacon of hope for India as they look to level the series at Edgbaston. In his 20 Tests, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar's illustrious career saw him become the first player to score 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow Gavaskar in this elite list, reaching 2,000 runs in their 25th Tests.
With his stylish strokeplay and composed demeanor, Jaiswal has the opportunity to surpass these legends and provide India with a much-needed victory in the crucial Edgbaston Test.
