Vaibhav Suryavanshi, inspired by Shubman Gill, is aiming for a double century after his record-breaking innings in Youth ODIs.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in the record books by smashing the fastest century in Youth ODIs, reaching the milestone in just 52 balls against England. Now, the ambitious youngster has set his sights on an even greater feat: a double century, drawing inspiration from Shubman Gill's remarkable Test performances.
Following his sensational innings, the 14-year-old revealed that Shubman Gill's batting prowess at Edgbaston served as a major source of motivation. Gill's scores of 269 and 161 in the Test match against England left a lasting impression on Suryavanshi, fueling his desire to emulate such feats.
"I got a lot of inspiration from Shubman Gill when he scored his 100 and 200. He kept at it and took it forward," said Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Despite his record-breaking achievement, Vaibhav remains grounded and focused on future goals. He expressed a desire to bat for the entire 50 overs and reach the coveted double century mark.
"My next goal will be to hit 200 and play a full 50 overs," Vaibhav stated.
Currently, no player has ever scored a double century in Youth ODIs. The highest individual score stands at 191, achieved by Sri Lanka's Hasitha Boyagoda.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is rapidly gaining recognition as a generational talent, consistently adding to his impressive collection of records. Earlier this year, he became the youngest player to score a T20 century and the fastest Indian to reach a hundred in the IPL, representing Rajasthan Royals.
On Friday, after England opted to bowl first, Suryavanshi opened the innings with skipper Ayush Mhatre. Despite Mhatre's early dismissal, Suryavanshi remained composed and built on his confidence from the previous match, where he scored 86 runs. His fearless batting display shifted the momentum in India's favor.
Vaibhav's talent was also evident last year when he struck the second-fastest century in Men's Youth Tests, scoring a blistering 56-ball hundred against Australia U19 in Chennai.
